Captain Sloan Gurney, a North Fork Captain, and Black Rock Sport Fishing Charters are long time members of the North Fork Captains Association. The North Fork Captains Association provides representation to Orient fishing, Greenport fishing, North Fork fishing, Long Island fishing and New York fishing regulations. Like all recreational fishermen, not only fishing in Orient Point, East End Long Island fishing boats or not only fishing on the North Fork charters, Capt Sloan and Black Rock Fishing Charters rely on a strong sustainable fishery. With good scientific data and proper fishery management The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) can formulate fishing regulations that will protect our future fish stocks while still enabling us to enjoy New York fishing today. The North Fork Captain's Association helps provide the DEC with real data and advice when calculating fishery statistics and formulating sound regulations.

New York fluke regulations for the last half decade have frustrated everyone. Orient Point Fishing continues to have excellent fluke fishing and Black Rock Sport Fishing Charters has had great fluke catches landed doormat fluke, but with a shorter season our bookings are all jammed together and our openings are limited. The Striped Bass Fishing in Orient Point has been considered the best in the country and in large part results from good fishing regulations. The Black Rock Charter Boat has been fishing in Orient Point, fishing in Southold and fishing in Greenport primarily fishing on the East End of long Island with great results for more than a decade and recognizes how the sound fishing regulations have made a difference. The North Fork Captains Association has done an excellent job in educating the Long Island fisherman and our representatives to the needs of North Fork fishing and Long Island fishing.

The North Fork Captain Association continues efforts to insure the New York State salt water fishing license (SWL), a federal mandate, is properly structured, so that Black Rock Charter anglers will NOT need to have one. Including our charter party boat license Black Rock Sport Fishing also has a Striped Bass license, special for charter boat fishing in New York, so that anglers can catch up to 6 more stripers on Black Rock striped bass fishing trips. Captain Sloan and the North Fork Captain's Association have supported Orient Point fishing and Greenport fishing and all fishing on Long Island.
